Never before have I seen the world so shaken up. Covid-19 have indeed created such a wild and vast impact that we may need a few years to eventually recover economically, mentally, physically and emotionally.
Originating from Wuhan, this virus found its way to almost every single country in the world.
Mauritius, a small country in the Indian ocean was not spared as well.
With the first official case appearing mid march, the govt initiated drastic measures to try to contain this epidemic.
A total lockdown was instated and then our life changed as never before. On one side we were worried for our health, on another side we grew worried for our future, food and security. Though the first few days was a bit hectic, we managed to adapt to this new scenario which eventually went on for almost two month now and does seem to be ending anytime soon.
Day 1: Came as a shock to listen the PM initiating a total lockdown. Bit disoriented
Day 2- Day 10: keeping a keen ear for any news but nothing good coming out of it.
Day 11 – Day 30: On a personal level I started to reorient myself and began to cater for my hobbies and to learn new skills. Kind of discouraging seeing that I could not make something constructive. Depression was settling on, however something happened that I absolutely didn’t even consider before. With all the rush in my life, I never actually settled down to appreciate the small and lovely things surrounding me.
I started spending time with my family and keeping in contact with friends.
I have also worked from home with my colleagues which created a different connection between us.
These few past weeks have allowed me to adapt a new healthy lifestyle which I shall take as an opportunity to grow.
Day 31 till today: I found my sweet spot between work, family time and my hobbies. This new life adjustment came at a cost but the future does not seem so bleak anymore.
Humans have the ability to adapt and evolve to any situation and this seems to be one of those situations throughout time where we eventually sees us adapting and living this new lifestyle.
Now with the confinement finally over, I do hope that people will make the best of the time and that there will be a new way of living. Just like Gandhi mentioned; Simple living, High thinking.
